I'm in USA now
And you can't replace the op.It's a module.
I drived my hd600 today, and the first impression wasn't bad.
But I felt that I really needed a good destop CDP now.But I'm so far away from home
now.....

又是一個牽著一個
耳機弄玩 找耳擴 好的耳擴找完 又要找 cdp啦...
這款也是基爾摩設計的產品嗎?
還是指示headamp另外弄來做的?
Actually I have had a CDP already,it's Philips CD472 upgraded.Accroading to the thread on headfi,ae-1 is based on Kevin Gilmore's unpublish portable amp AE(American Eagle). That's why it named AE-1
Gilmore himself didn't design ae-1,but he provided a lot ideas on it.Justin also used a lot of passed experiences and ideas from the other products.Besides, they applied some new ideas in ae-1,such as the amp module.
Therefore,ae-1 is more like a "transportable" amp.IMO,AE-1,SR-71,and SM3 are in the same level. It just depends on your taste and your setups. But I could say that AE-1 is aboslutely a winner on battery life(120hrs).RCA input is also a attractive feature to persuade me to get this tiny thing.
The sound of AE-1 is warm and smmoth, but the sound feature could changes a lot by using different cables.I connected my er4p with ae-1 by using cardas mini-mini cable. The sound I heared is so much alike a audio technnica's phone. The vocal performance is so charming and sweet, you can easily feel the singer's feelings and emotions.I never thught of that er4p could make such a beautiful melody on the mids.
But it chaneges to another different sound feature while I connect with StrightWire mini-RCA cable. It's more cold and detailed, and you'll get more bass impact on this setup. But it's not totally a cold sound,it's just not as warm as connecting cardas cable. As I said before,ae-1 is a warm amp, therefore you can still hear a little bit warm sound.
